Neurodivergent Individuals: Challenges and Pathways to Inclusive Healthcare

Caring for the health of neurodivergent individuals presents considerable challenges that transcend clinical barriers, encompassing social, cultural, and structural elements. Among the main challenges are the lack of adequate training for professionals to understand the diverse expressions of neurodivergence, the lack of protocols tailored to individual needs, and the persistence of stigma, which hinders equal access to healthcare services. Furthermore, communication and bureaucratic problems exacerbate exclusion and restrict patient autonomy. Conversely, strategies for inclusive care involve the creation of public policies focused on equity, the continuous training of multidisciplinary teams, the promotion of individual-centered practices, and the importance of active listening. It is essential to create accessible and welcoming spaces, along with combating prejudice, to ensure that neurodivergent individuals receive dignified and humanized care.
