The Influence of Cancer in Childhood: Barriers and Expectations

Abstract
Cancer in children is a challenging situation that affects thousands of young people and their families worldwide. This condition affects not only the child who receives the diagnosis, but also their family members and the community in which they live. Research shows that the psychosocial consequences of diagnosis and treatment can be significant, requiring supportive approaches that involve several areas, to ensure the well-being of both young patients and their caregivers. Although medicine has evolved, the diagnostic process continues to face emotional, social and financial obstacles. However, confidence increases with advances in research and community solidarity. Conclusion: It is important that specialists are technically qualified and motivated to have training that makes them sensitive, since the management of varied emotions is common in this field of study. The presence of the mother or a family member is essential during treatment, since cancer generates a significant biopsychosocial impact on the child and their family. This implies that the multidisciplinary team must offer care that prioritizes humanization and comprehensiveness.
